Gatanga Constituency Website

Recent Press Release

This youthful MP has achieved more in his constituency in the last 7 years than his predecessors over more than 35 years. Elected as member of parliament for Gatanga in December 2002 with 26,000 votes against his closest rival at 6,000 votes, he promised his electorate community empowerment and systematically set about to achieve this through professional management of the constituency development fund. Five years later in December 2007, he was re-elected as the area member of parliament with 58,000 votes trouncing his rival who maintained his previous number of votes - 6,000. The people had voted for empowerment. He is the first member of parliament to gain a second term in Gatanga for the last 25 years. The Gatanga Constituency has become a model constituency voted for having the best managed CDF in the country. The CDF concentrates on improving education standards, access to improved healthcare for all, water management and distribution, assured security for residents and visitors and an aggressive re-afforestation campaign. Hon Kenneth has achieved unparalled success through efficient management of public resources and an effective management style that allows the communities in Gatanga a say in how these resources are managed. He has been instrumental in the improvement of infrastructure and the constituency now boasts of 78km of tarmac, the pride of this community. "We have not a single pothole, come and check!", he declared famously on Churchill Live. Off tarmac, the inner roads are well graded and continously maintained and all homes have access to electricity.

Over the last six years, as a result of this success, Gatanga has become the destination for over thirty delegations from other constituencies seeking to study this model and learn the secret to success. Earlier this year, Hon Kenneth hosted the current British High Commissioner, Sir Adam Wood, and a group from the Namibian government - both seeking to understand the CDF model in Kenya and how successful it has become. The question remains, can this enigmatic man replicate the success of Gatanga on a national scale? Is he willing to try?

Hon Kenneth has consistently reaffirmed his support for the proposed new constitution. He has said it is a better constitution than the old one and asked Kenyans to read the draft carefully and attend civic education sessions in order to better understand it. He believes that the real stakeholders of Kenya are its youth - young people, young families - both at home and in the diaspora and the proposed new constitution will give them a chance for a new beginning.
