Providing Water For Development Of Gatanga

Feeding our population takes up to 90% of freshwater withdrawals but many people still don't have access to enough water.

By building water projects in our community, we are able to provide clean and safe water for irrigation and drinking to our people which they can often use to grow small gardens near their homes and secure their own food supply.

This ensures that they are Self-sufficient households hence less affected by external conflict, famine or inadequate government services.

Water Supply in Kenya has been a major development draw-back. As a Solution Gatanga has taken a public private partnership approach to ensure constant & Consistent rural water supply, quality management and utilization.

For effective Drought Management Water Resource Management is key, Gatanga Constituency ensures high protection & preservation of natural forestation that is a water catchment for constant natural water supply and essential capacity building component.

For this cause, to serve the Water Needs of the people of Gatanga Constituency, ensuring equitable water supply division, Gatanga Water Company was formed in 2004 and registered as a licensed water provider with Athi Water services board.

The company headquarters are situated at the divisional headquarters in Mabanda.

Boreholes Providing Sustainable Water Supply

People’s lives and livelihoods depend on water. Demand for Water in Kenya increases with the continual increase in population. In many Parts of the Kenya lack of water essential to survival & prosperity of the people is critically low. The need for More sustainable, secure and low cost water supplies has led to the realization that Maintaining secure water supplies for drinking, industry and agriculture would be impossible without groundwater, which is the largest and most reliable of all freshwater resources.

In Rural Kenya the Old and Young women have to tread for miles in search of this essential commodity. Kenya has abundant fresh water: Groundwater, rivers and lakes that can be channeled into Ministry of Water or Treatment plants. With application of chlorination and filtration procedures it will be ready for human consumption.

In this Regard in Gatanga Constituency energetic and pragmatic members are restoring to digging water boreholes for our children and families to quench the water thirst.

To Achieve sustainable water supply in our constituency We have identified Ground water as our most effective solution.

Borehole drilling will supply our Gatanga Constituency community with safe clean water resource and its development can play a big role in our Constituency's growth.

Gatanga Constituency aims to achieve The Millennium Development Goal (MDG) for sustainable water supply in Gatanga Constituency which will be advanced by strategic drilling of Boreholes.

Three components key to good maintenance of a Borehole water supply are: the right technology, ownership by the communities, and local capacity to maintain or repair wells and systems.
